Am J Ophthalmol. 1997 Jun;123(6):839-41. doi: 10.1016/s0002-9394(14)71137-7.

Abstract

Purpose: To report a child with extensive bilateral hyperplastic pupillary membranes and good visual acuity.

Method: We examined a 9-year-old child with bilateral hyperplastic persistent pupillary membranes present since birth.

Results: The patient had a visual acuity of BE, 20/30, stereopsis of 50 seconds of arc, orthophoria, and normal extraocular movements. The remainder of the ophthalmic examination was normal.

Conclusion: Patients with bilateral hyperplastic pupillary membranes may not require surgical intervention.
