Decreasing the burden of trauma for victims of violence

Abstract

Treating victims of violence is a routine part of emergency medicine. The predictable physiologic and cognitive sequelae of violent trauma are discussed, with a general timeline of their emergence. Strategies for the psychologic support in the ED of victims of violence are described.
