Data on restriction fragment length polymorphism (for entire mtDNA molecules--BamHI, DraI, EcoRI, HindIII, PstI, PvuII, ScaI; for the 16,081-16,545 bp segment of mtDNA--AvaII, BamHI, EcoRV, HaeIII, HinfI, KpnI, RsaI, Sau3AI) in eastern Slavs of Magadan is presented. By Sau3AI/BclI digestion analysis, a new polymorphic variant of mtDNA in Caucasoid populations with the C-T nucleotide substitution in position 16147 bp was revealed. The absence of significant differences in mitotypic diversity of Slavic samples from Magadan (h = 0.921 in Russians, h = 0.898 in Ukrainians) was observed. By comparative analysis of mtDNA RFLP, the presence of genetic differences between eastern Slavic populations of Magadan, Tomsk, and the cities of the European region of Russia was demonstrated.
