Abstract
Mixed germ cell tumors represent about 8% of all malignant germ cell tumors of the ovary. Although there is much information in the literature on primary therapy for malignant ovarian germ cell tumors, little has been reported on salvage therapy for such tumors when they are recurrent. Based on reports of studies in testicular cancer, the preferred salvage therapy is a combination of etoposide, vinblastine, ifosfamide, and cisplatin. We describe here the case of a patient who received the combination of vincristine, carboplatin, fluorouracil, and ifosfamide as salvage therapy for recurrent malignant mixed germ cell tumor, to our knowledge this is the first report of such case treated with this combination. She has been in remission for 6 years.
