Abstract
Health care workers are constantly exposed to infectious agents in the course of their work. The pregnant health care worker presents additional concerns because of the potential risk of transmission of infection to the developing fetus. This article addresses the aspects of infection transmission, infectious agents of concern to health care workers, and operational aspects of an infection control program that is comprehensive, scientifically based, and equitable to all employees.
