Abstract

Radiotherapy is usually employed as a part of a multidisciplinary treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary antrum. In general, the clinical stage classification relates well with the prognosis. Sometimes, however, even early cases may have a poor prognosis if some other prognostic factors also are related. According to the histopathological findings of biopsy specimens of 74 patients, a grading on malignancy is discussed. Three different morphological parameters have been evaluated with respect to the tumor cell population in terms of the four-point scale. This has permitted a grading with total points ranging from 3-12. The correlation between the degree of histopathological malignancy and neck node metastasis has been found to be remarkable.
