At the 30 January 1878 the gynaecologist Wilhelm Alexander Freund (University of Breslau) succeeded in performing the first exstirpation of an uterus with cervical carcinoma by his abdominal method. By this way a new chapter of surgical gynaecology was opened. The purpose of this article is to remember the jewish physician and scientist whose work gave the impetus for fundamental changes of the therapy of malignant uterus at the end of the XIX. century.
