Clinical utility comparison of two benchtop deep sequencing instruments for rapid diagnosis of newly emergent influenza infections

Clin Microbiol Infect. 2015 Mar;21(3):290.e1-4. doi: 10.1016/j.cmi.2014.10.016. Epub 2014 Oct 29.

Abstract

Rapid determination of full genomes of influenza A viruses from clinical samples is vital to outbreak preparedness. We benchmarked Ion Torrent PGM and Illumina MiSeq to the standard Sanger sequencing on two real clinical samples and demonstrated their performance for full-genome determination and polymorphism identification.
