Vascular myogenic or stretch-dependent tone

J Cardiovasc Pharmacol. 1985:7 Suppl 3:S129-36. doi: 10.1097/00005344-198500073-00015.

Abstract

Myogenic tone is an important source of vascular resistance, which appears to depend upon stretch of the vessel wall. It contributes to autoregulation, is dependent upon external calcium, and may involve a calcium-entry mechanism different from that associated with the action of agonists and changes in the membrane potential.
