[The elderly diabetic patient in dental treatment]

Abstract

The diabetic disease is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the societies at high industrial development. In the first part, are treated the epidemiologic and physiopathologic aspects of it, with special attention to the peculiarities of the senile diabetes mellitus. Beside, is examined the therapy of the diabetes in elderly people. The classical pharmacologic therapy is discussed and suggested with the other therapeutic means represented by the physical activity and by the diet. The last part is dedicated to the problems that an elderly diabetic can have during the dental treatments, by discussing the possible acceptable cures.
