Abstract

Advances in the understanding and treatment of human epilepsy published in the preceding year are discussed. The review focuses on three topical areas: epidemiological studies pertinent to clinical management decisions; new information on the pathophysiology and genetics of human epilepsy; and new information on vagal nerve stimulation as a potential treatment for medically intractable epilepsy.
